M. Cambridge, GLOSSARY Chemical equation Symbolic representation of a chemical reaction where entities are separated by a '+', with stoichiometric numbers indicated if they differs from 1, where reactants are on the left and products are on the right, both sides being separated by an arrow or =. In our definition, the two sides of the chemical equation must be in a stoichiometric relation. This constraint frequently disqualifies chemical equations to represent reactions with appropriate richness; removing the stoichiometric constraint gives reaction schemes, 1978.
